Join us for an enriching discussion on how to improve and expand accelerated examination programs for patents.  Complementary policies that encourage rapid innovation of green inventions with a common goal of protecting the global society from the imminent and long-term risks of climate change will be discussed.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will also address the interconnection between public health crisis and the need for accelerated innovation to mitigate the health risks that they impose.

SPEAKERS

Allison Mages

Head, Legislative and Policy Advice Section, Patent Law Division at WIPO

Ms. Allison Mages leads a team at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) that delivers legislative and policy advice to countries on patents and trade secrets.  She also manages the Inventor Assistance Program (IAP) which connects under-resourced inventors with volunteer patent attorneys and agents to navigate the patent system.

David Gerk

Senior Patent Attorney, Office of Policy and International Affairs at the USPTO

David Gerk is Acting Senior Patent Counsel in the Office of Policy and International Affairs (OPIA) at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) where he advises the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on domestic and international IP issues as well as on United States treaty obligations and helps to formulate U.S. domestic and international policy regarding protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights. 

Dr. Ronen Lahav
In charge of the Green Tech Examination Program at the Israel PTO

Dr. Ronen Lahav is a senior patent examiner in the Israeli patent office. He received his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences and Microphysics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Currently Dr. Lahav is the Head of Computer and telecommunication team. He was one of the pioneers for launching the Fast-tracking green patent project and he is in charge for Fast-tracking green patent applications approval. 

Fernando Cassibi de Souza

Deputy Head of Bilateral Relations at the National Institute of Industrial Property of Brazil (INPI) 

Fernando Cassibi de Souza is a career Researcher in Industrial Property at the National Institute of Industrial Property of Brazil (INPI). He holds a degree in International Relations from UNESA. He is a Master of Intellectual Property and Innovation and currently a PhD student in Intellectual Property and Innovation at the INPI Academy. In 2017, was an intern at the Permanent Mission of Brazil in Geneva (DELBRASOMC), occasion when he also joined the Brazil delegation at many meetings at the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
Wen Cao

Senior Partner, Patent Attorney and Attorney-at-law, Principal of NTD Shanghai Office

Ms. Cao was qualified as a Chinese patent attorney in 1998 and as an attorney-at-law in 2008. Before joining NTD in 2009, Ms. Cao worked as patent attorney for over ten years and as Director of Shanghai Office of China Patent Agent. Her experience predominantly lies in patent prosecution, invalidation, infringement and intellectual property portfolio management in various hi-tech areas including chemistry, chemical  engineering, nanotechnology, biotechnology, materials science.

Expert in patent valuation, R&D and innovation finance; experienced IP owner and executive

Patrick Breslin, founder of Breslin Consulting, is an economist and expert in intellectual property (IP), valuation, quantifying damages in IP disputes, R&D and technology finance and development, and other areas of economic and financial analysis. He has valued transactions for over 25 years in complex regulatory, litigation, and other dispute resolution contexts, often involving multiple country jurisdictions. He has analyzed and valued a range IP types, including patents, in energy- and green tech-related contexts. Mr. Breslin was also a technology business executive and managed an R&D team and IP portfolio as CEO of Relatable™ –an R&D-focused software and AI solutions provider.
