Dorothy Nakimbugwe

DOROTHY NAKIMBUGWE is an Associate Professor in the Department of Food & Nutrition at Makerere University in Uganda. She holds a PhD in Bio-science engineering from the Katholieke University of Leuven, Belgium; an MS. In Food Science from Cornell University, Ithaca New York and a BSc. Food Science & Technology from Makerere University. She has made significant contributions to research, training and knowledge translation in the field of food and nutrition sciences in Uganda. Dr. Nakimbugwe pioneered research on grain amaranth, common dry beans, insects for food and feed and under-utilized fish, applying novel processing technologies to address nutrition needs of under-resourced persons. Her work resulted in 15 commercially available food products. She has authored 35 scientific and numerous mass media articles, given multiple television and radio interviews and made presentations to different audiences. Dr. Nakimbugwe is a Fellow of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences (UNAS).
