Annsley Ward

Annsley is an intellectual property litigator at Bristows LLP in London. She specializes in complex cross-border trade secrets, patent, SEP/FRAND and SPC litigation in the life sciences and TMT sectors.
After studying chemical engineering in the US, she graduated with an LL.B (Honours) from the University of Bristol in 2007 and continued her legal studies at UCL under the late Sir Hugh Laddie QC, graduating with an LL.M in Intellectual Property Law in 2008. Leveraging her scientific background, Annsley acts for some of the world’s leading innovative technology companies in high tech IP disputes ranging from radiotherapy/MRI, wireless technology and algorithmic trading to TNF-inhibitors, respiratory products and molecular diagnostics.
Annsley is listed as an IP Rising Star by Managing IP’s IP Stars (2017), a WIPR Global IP Leader (2017), an IP Rising Star in Super Lawyers (2014, 2015), and in 2014, was shortlisted in the same category for Euromoney’s Europe Women in Business Law Awards.
She is a recognized expert in the Unified Patent Court advising clients and industry associations on the impact of the UPC on litigation strategy. In 2014, she was appointed as Secretary of AIPPI’s Standing Committee on the Unified Patent Court and Unitary Patent and, in 2016, appointed as Co-Chair. In 2017, she was appointed as member of AIPPI’s new Standing Committee on Trade Secrets. She is also a Council Member of the UK National Group.
Annsley is globally recognized by her nome du plume, AmeriKat, when writing for the award-winning IPKat blog on European and US IP court decisions and developing legislation. She is also a member and co-chair of the London Chapter of ChIPs and is passionate about advancing and supporting women in patent law and policy.
