The 2024 AIPPI China Copyright Forum: Hot Issues in China Copyright Law

The 2024 AIPPI China Copyright Forum was successfully held in Beijing on December 7, 2024. The Forum attracted nearly 200 participants, including renowned members of the academia, judiciary, and the legal profession, as well as practitioners from the film and television industry, the mini-series industry, the music industry, the artificial intelligence industry, and other fields.

Mr. YU Cike, Executive Vice Chairman of the Copyright Society of China, delivered the opening speech, followed by Chuanhong Long, President of AIPPI Chinese Group. The opening was moderated by (Richard) Yi Li, Secretary-General of AIPPI Chinese Group.

Professor HAO Min, Dean of the Law School of the University of Foreign Relations, announced the Top Ten Copyright Cases in 2024. Madam Justice LI Huan from the Beijing Intellectual Property Court briefly commented on these cases.

The Forum was structured into two main sessions. The Keynote Speech sessions were moderated by Mr. YANG Huaquan, Vice Director and Secretariat of Beijing Intellectual Property Law Research Association. During these sessions, Justice ZHAO Changxin from Beijing Internet Court, Prof. LI Yang, Ms. DENG Shang’rui, Professor LI Chen, and Professor WANG Qian, delivered in-depth speeches on hot issues in copyright. Cheng Gao of Beijing TA. Law Firm briefly introduced the Q291 AIPPI Resolution adopted at the AIPPI Congress in Hangzhou. Further, Jingjian Li, Founding Partner of Beijing TA. Law Firm, released the Legal Compliance Guidelines for the Mini-series Industry.

The Round-table Discussion session was further divided into two sub-sessions. The first sub-session delved into issues of Re-analysis of Idea-Expression Dichotomy from a Judicial Perspective, offering expertise from the academia and judiciary. The presentation featured Professor ZHANG Guang’liang, Madam Justice WANG Qiluan, Madam Justice YE Sheng’nan, and Madam Justice ZHANG Qian, and was moderated by Professor DU Ying.

The second sub-session focused on issues of Artificial Intelligence Generated Content and Copyright from an industrial standpoint. The featured presenters were Ms. JIANG Ge, Mr. JIA Zhen, Mr. YANG Yue, and Mr. GOU Boxue, with Allen WANG as the moderator.

Allen WANG, Chairman of the Copyright Committee of AIPPI Chinese Group, delivered a speech at the closing ceremony and expressed best wishes for the prospective development in the copyright field and the 2025 AIPPI Congress.
