Speakers

Christof Augenstein

Dr Christof Augenstein is name partner at Kather Augenstein. He has been active as a litigator for almost 20 years and has become a Certified Specialist in Intellectual Property in 2007, enforcing intellectual property rights such as patents, trademarks, and designs in litigation.

Dr Augenstein is involved in various publications on patent law, in particular on the Unified Patent Court (UPC), such as for instance being a Co-editor and author of the international commentary Augenstein/Wilson/Agé on the procedural law of the Unified Patent Court, (Hart Publishing/Beck-Verlag, expected publication date autumn 2024), Author on the Agreement on the Unified Patent Court (UPC) in the Beck Online Commentary Fitzner/Lutz/Bodewig (already available online) and an author together with Petri Rinkinen on the law of appeals in the Beck-online English commentary edited by Matthias Zigann.
Further, he comments in Cepl/Voß, Prozesskommentar zum Gewerblichen Rechtsschutz und Urheberrecht, the sections about expert opinions and documentary evidence.

Further, Dr Augenstein is active in international organisations and professional associations. For example, he is the Chairman of the Standing Committee Unitary Patent/Unifled Patent Court (UP/UPC) Q 243 at AIPPI (Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriete lntellectuelle – International Association for the Protection of lntellectual Property).

He has been widely recommended in directories (Best Lawyers/ Handelsblatt, Managing IP/ IP Stars, Legal 500, JUVE, Chambers & Partners) for his legal advice in the field of intellectual property rights.

Thierry Calame
Dr. Thierry Calame is the firm’s managing partner based in Zurich and is an expert in intellectual property matters with a particular emphasis on patent law. He has vast experience as counsel in patent and other IP litigation, as well as IP-related arbitration. He regularly sits as an arbitrator in IP-related arbitration.

Thierry also advises on licensing, the intellectual property aspects of other transactions and pharmaceutical law, including regulatory and advertising issues. He has a master’s degree in both chemistry and law, and is a permanent lecturer at the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property. Thierry has published on a wide range of intellectual property topics. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the European Patent Lawyers Association (EPLAW) and a past president of EPLAW.

He is also Co-Chair of the Committee on Unitary Patent / Unified Patent Court of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI). From 2010 to 2014, he acted as Reporter General of AIPPI. From 2018 to 2022, Thierry was also a member of the board of Innosuisse, the Swiss Innovation Agency.

Gualtiero Dragotti 
Gualtiero Dragotti is a Partner at DLA Piper in the Milan office and the Global Co-Chair of the Patent Group. He has over 25 years of experience handling intellectual property matters, specifically focusing on patents and the protection of innovation in industries such as mechanical, life science, chemical, fashion, and sports equipment.

Gualtiero advises leading Italian and international clients on various non-contentious and contentious IP cases, including some of the key patent litigation issues in Italy.

Louise Jonshammar
Louise has extensive experience providing legal advice and counsel for all types of intellectual property rights, however with a strong emphasis on patents. She focuses on litigation, contracts, negotiations, license and transfer agreements, data protection regulations and competition law matters. Louise strategically assists clients with any of the legal and strategic issues that arise from their intellectual property portfolios.

Louise’s experience allows her to advise clients from both an administrative and judicial perspective, ensuring her clients’ intellectual property rights are fully protected, maintained and managed. She also specialises in European Supplementary Protection Certificates (SPCs).

Her clients range from pharmaceutical giants to promising IP-rich start-ups. She has worked with clients of all sizes across a range of industries to manage their intellectual property rights. This includes not only litigation but also licensing and transfer as well as developing IP strategies and internal processes that align with a company’s business plan.

Louise leads AWA’s Unitary Patent Specialist Team comprising of experienced attorneys from across our European offices. She fully understands the Unitary Patent System and advises clients on the best course of action for their European patents. She is a registered Representative before the Unified Patent Court (UPC).

She is an active participator in the intellectual property and business communities, regularly attending industry events and contributing articles on legal developments to leading industry publications. Louise is the President of the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI) in Sweden and continues to be ranked as a leading lawyer by the IAM Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Professionals.

Domien Op de Beeck
Domien Op de Beeck is an attorney-at-law operating out of Brussels. He is a partner at Bird & Bird LLP, specialising in intellectual property (IP) law and practice since 2007.

Domien focuses on patent, trade secret and design protection, but has experience in data-related mandates, trademark and copyright matters as well. Domien advises on IP-rich transactions, due diligence and freedom to operate mandates on a daily basis and has a proven track record in (national and cross-border) IP litigation.

Domien is a member of the Licensing Executing Society (LES), the Benelux Trademarks and Design Association (BMM) and the European Patent Lawyers Association (EPLAW), and he is a member of the board at AIPPI Belgium, and the UPC committee at AIPPI.
