AIPPI Finland organises an ‘AI Afternoon’ on 5 November (13.00 – 17.00 CET) in Helsinki!

05 November 2024 | Webinar | AIPPI

The recent entry into force of the EU’s Artificial Intelligence Act has been the subject of much debate recently. However, the Artificial Intelligence Act does not address the relationship between the artificial intelligence (AI) and intellectual property rights (IPR), nor the interesting legal issues involved, such as the role of AI as an inventor or author, or how requirements for protection such as originality of the work or inventive step of the invention should be considered in AI-generated innovations or creations. These, and other topical questions will be discussed in AIPPI Finland’s AI Afternoon on 5 November 2024, a premier event dedicated to exploring the intersection of AI and IPRs. This afternoon event will feature a diverse lineup of distinguished speakers from both Europe and the US, offering a unique opportunity to delve into the latest legal questions and industry perspectives related to AI and IPRs.

The agenda highlights include a presentation by Mike Connor (Partner, Alston & Bird LLP), who will give us an insight into US practice and case law on AI and various IPRs. European perspective on these topics will be provided by Alexander Korenberg (Partner, Kilburn & Strode), who will discuss AI and patents, and by Tobias Kempas (Counsel, Vinge), who will focus on copyright implications of machine learning. The event also features views from the business and industry as Antti Härmänmaa (Head of IP Legal, L&C, Nokia Technologies) will share Finnish industry perspectives on questions related to AI and IPRs, while Reidar Wasenius (CEO & Founder, Lexofon) will give us a presentation on “Fair Use of People’s Voices: Cautionary and Encouraging Examples”.

This event promises to be an engaging and informative afternoon, with discussions on both the legal aspects and practical applications of AI in the industry. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights and network with professionals in the field.

The official programme will be followed by a cocktail hour which provides an opportunity to continue discussion and networking.
