Document reference system
A new document reference system has been introduced for all documents pertaining to the AIPPI’s Study Question work. Each Study Question document has been allocated a unique reference, which includes key information about the contents of the document, hence making it easier to locate, search and identify documents.
The following documents have been allocated unique references:
- Study Guidelines
- Group Reports
- Summary Reports
- Resolutions
- Minutes from Plenary Sessions during the AIPPI World Congress
In each unique document reference the following key information is provided:
- The dedicated Q Number.
- The indication of type of document. The following abbreviations are used: GR for Group Reports, SR for Summary Reports, RES for Resolutions, MIN for Minutes and SGL for Study Guidelines 4
- The year published
- Language
Figure 1. Document reference example
The reference for each document relating to a specific Study Question remains the same, except for the referral to the document type, which will change according to what document it is, e.g. a Resolution, Guidelines etc. This will allow users to effortlessly locate all relevant documents concerning a specific Study Question.
AIPPI Q numbers:
Historically, all AIPPI Study Questions have been given a dedicated Q number, starting with Q1 which was the first Study Question considered by AIPPI in 1954, concerning the “Rearrangement of the text of the International Convention for the protection of industrial property” (Q1-RES-1954-en).
Traditionally, the Q number was the number of the Standing Committee responsible for the Study Question in question. However, in the 1950s this approach was abandoned, and AIPPI started allocating Q numbers to Study Questions and newly established Standing Committees consecutively. In 2016 it was decided that for clarity Standing Committees should no longer be identified by Q numbers. Since then and going forward only regular Study Questions or Questions raised by Standing Committees which will undergo the working process of a resolution will bear a Q number.
