by John Bochnovic (Executive Director of AIPPI)
The preparations for the educational/professional development programme of the 2016 AIPPI World Congress in Milan are well under way. The Congress will offer 15 panel sessions with expert moderators and speakers over three days (Sunday, September 18 through Tuesday, September 20). They will cover a wide array of topical issues in IP law such as IP in both the food and fashion industries, GI’s, contributory patent infringement, the TPP and the TTIP, patentability of computer implemented technologies, the European Digital Single Market (DSM), requirements for claiming priority in patent law, the European Trademark Reform Package, and parody as an exception to copyright infringement. With the entry into force of the Unified Patent Court expected very soon, there will be an extended session with a UPC Mock Trial, preceded by a UPC/UP update from the EPO. Pharma Day, having become a very popular fixture in the Congress programme, will offer 4 panel sessions dedicated to current issues in the pharmaceutical industry such as patentable subject matter, biosimilars, skinny labels, and the role of competition (anti-trust) laws. For a full description of all panel sessions, see link.
