Jan Bernd Nordemann is a partner of the German intellectual property law firm BOEHMERT & BOEHMERT and a certified copyright and media and a certified IP attorney. He works at its Berlin and Potsdam office, where he specializes in copyright, trade mark, design, unfair competition and anti-trust law.
In copyright law, Prof. Nordemann advises and represents clients film companies nationally and internationally as well as German and foreign book, newspaper and magazine publishers. He has been the legal advisor to members of associations in the area of design and stage theatres. Nordemann also works as a copyright policy advisor for state institutions, political parties and associations. The JUVE Manual 2015/2016 again describes Nordemann as one of Germany’s leading copyright lawyers. “Legal 500 Deutschland“ describes him as a copyright lawyer of especially high standing. “Best Lawyers International“ voted him among the top practitioners in the fields of entertainment, IP and media. He was made the chair of AIPPI’s Standing Committee “Copyright” and was elected to AIPPI’s Program Committee.
In respect of trademark and design law, Prof. Nordemann represents German and international companies, including companies from the media and IT industries as well as from the area of consumer goods. He administers worldwide trademark and design portfolios and represents owners before German and EU courts and authorities.
Since 1999, Jan Bernd Nordemann lectures at the Humboldt University Berlin on copyright, trademark and unfair competition law and was awarded an honorary professorship. He has been elected an arbitrator at the first German Board for Media Arbitration in Leipzig. Prof. Nordemann is one of the editors of “Fromm/Nordemann, Commentary on German Copyright Law“, 11th edition published 2014 (together with Axel Nordemann), and of “Nordemann, Unfair Competition and Trade Mark Law”, 11th edition 2012. Nordemann is listed as a contributor to the “Kluwer Copyright Blog”, where he publishes English language comments i.a. on European and German copyright cases. He has published a number of articles also in international law journals in the last years, for example “Internet Copyright Infringement: Remedies Against Intermediaries – The European Perspective on Host and Access Providers”, published in 59 Journal of Copyright Society of the U.S.A. 773 (2012).
