Seminar on “Issues on Trademark Registration and Use in the Metaverse Environment”

While preparing the Group report on Q285 – Proving Trademark Use, the Trademark Special Committee of the Chinese Group held a seminar on “Issues on Trademark Registration and Use in the Metaverse Environment” on March 30, 2023.

Ms. Hairuo Zhang, a member of the Trademark Committee of AIPPI China, briefed the attendees on the subject of the seminar, and the work the Committee had done on Q285 at the opening. Besides speakers from the Group, the seminar also invited guest speakers from the Beijing Intellectual Property Court, the CNIPA, Renmin University of China, Central University of Finance and Economics, Baidu and other metaverse-related enterprises. In-depth discussions were held on three topics: “Trademark use in the metaverse environment from a technical perspective”, “Issues arising from metaverse-related goods and services in the Nice Classification” and “Enforcement of trademark rights in the metaverse environment”. The seminar was moderated by Maggie Mi, co-chair of the Committee.
